I'm teaching a middle school-aged class on Lewis and Clark this fall, and found a good resource book while working on my lesson plan. Entitled
Lewis and Clark for Kids: Their Journey of Discovery with 21 Activities by Janis Herbert, it does a good job of describing the expedition's activities, challenges, and discoveries taken from journal entries for specific dates. If you've done a lot of hands-on history (like we have), the activities are not necessarily that inspiring or original. But compared to the traditional approach of read-lecture-discuss, of course, they are a good starting point for a more exciting approach to this period in American history.
